Susan Parker visited with the Haleyville Rotary Club and spoke about the Consumer Education Initiative, a program to help Alabamians become better informed about how to be more energy efficient.
Parker is one of the three members of the Alabama Public Service Commission (PSC). She stated the commission is committed to keeping utility rates as low as possible. However, there are things we can do to help keep our utility bills low. Some of her suggestions included practicing energy conserving habits, reducing one's home's energy losses, and upgrading to more efficient appliances. Parker spoke of using renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, hydro and biomass. Presently, most of our electrical energy comes from coal and secondly from hydro generation.
The Public Service Commission has a consumer service hotline
